Afternoon tea is one of those lovely treats that are often saved for sunny days with our other half, mum or best friends. At Moggerhanger Park in Bedford they've introduced some delightful treats to their menu in the Old Kitchen which opened in April. We were lucky enough to try their afternoon tea and if you're in the area, looking for a treat for your loved one or needing an excuse for a day out, visit the grounds and kitchen!

The kitchen offers a variety of sandwiches, panini's and lunchtime treats with a great selection of drinks on offer too. The cakes on display looked lovely and there is an outdoor seating area for catching a glimpse of the sun.

The venue is predominately a wedding venue and offers accommodation and corporate rooms. We just had a look at what the kitchen had to offer and were treated to a three tier afternoon tea with a pot of tea itself!

The tier came out nice and quickly and we were able to choose from a wide selection of sandwiches between us for the bottom tier. I chose prawns and Dan had the coronation chicken which was apparently very good as it had proper sauce with raisins (how it should be!)

I really liked the prawns too as they were fresh and tasty. We also had a selection of cheesecake, cakes and biscuits, the brownie was really nice and full of chocolate chunks, Dan had the shortcake and really enjoyed that The strawberries went really nicely with them! Macaroons featured in the selection, I've not tried many before but these were really nice and a definite sweet treat. The scones came with cream and jam and were really nice and homemade. The sugar coating was a new addition to scones and I thoroughly enjoyed them, they were huge!

The afternoon tea is throughly worth it on a sunny day, especially to enjoy in the outside area! I think the inside area of the cafe needs a tiny bit more atmosphere, such as good music or windows being open to not make it seem so awkward and quiet. But I think with time and the use of the outside area there is such huge potential for a popular cafe spot!

If you're in the area and looking for a treat in beautiful grounds, definitely check out Moggerhanger park! Visit the Twitter page here [LINK] and the facebook page here [LINK].
