After our wedding in May this year, we knew we wanted a ‘minimoon’ to escape from work relax as a married couple in some sand, sea and sun! We knew we wanted a luxurious resort but one that had plenty to offer in terms of exploring, food, beaches and pools! The Sheraton La Caleta in Tenerife, is possibly the best hotel we’ve ever been too and it’s fully worthy of a review. If you’re looking for a honeymoon in Europe and want to feel pampered then read on!
We booked the Sheraton through Inspired Luxury Escapes who we’ve used for 3/5 of our holidays together and we love the ease of booking, ensuring you’re getting the best price and talking to a UK base to organise it all including transfers, flight times and baggage!
We went the week after the May half term and the weather was perfect. After a four hour flight we landed in pure bliss, Tenerife seems to be well invested in, there’s plenty of resorts and most people will know Tenerife for it’s ‘cheaper’ areas including the Siam Park water resorts.
La Caleta is about 10 minutes drive away from that area but still in a fantastic location for a bit of culture as well as your beers for a euro! Essentially everything we were after!
We purposely upgraded our room to a Club Room to get the honeymoon experience. It was the best room ever. It had a HUGE bedroom area with LOADS of wardrobe space and all your usual bits like a safe and iron. Importantly, it had a fridge that wasn’t just a minibar which meant we were able to buy big bottles of water and beers etc for our fridge to enjoy in the room.
By being in a club room we got a few little extras such as a newspaper every morning, and every day we received two mini bottles of water each in the morning tidy and evening turns down. These were little extras that are well received considering you always need water on holiday.
The bathroom was massive but also benefited from a bath, separate shower, two sinks and also a separate door to the toilet which meant more privacy and extra space! I cannot get over how big the bathroom was, no picture did it justice!
The room also had a balcony which was super secluded and faced the sea, also another benefit of a Club Room. Club Rooms also mean you don’t face into the pool areas and means you’re guaranteed a higher floor. We loved this aspect and felt really secluded by being able to watch the world go by outside without seeing anyone else.
As we had mentioned it was our honeymoon, about five minutes after getting into our room, a butler arrived with a bottle of champagne and chocolate coated strawberries. This was the nicest touch ever and it really set the mood for the holiday! We LOVED the strawberries and the fizz was well received after our flight! Hotels that give extras like this really make holidays.
The food at the Sheraton was insane. We were on a half board as we tend to go out for lunch on holiday but we looked forward to breakfast and dinner every day! The fish was exceptional and the choices of fresh salads, veggies, and meats to cook were incredible. Every night it was something different and we definitely ate too much but all of it was so good! Just look at those prawns!
We also treated ourselves to a meal in the Japanese a la carte restaurant, there are a few a la carte restaurants which can be supplemented instead of the buffet that evening when booked ahead. It was great that this gave us a bit of credit towards our meal but this was a once in a week treat a bit like a date night on holiday.
We went for the sushi set menu which was about 5/6 rounds of incredibly fresh and interesting dishes. We loved trying these out and figuring out all the different flavours. I highly reccomend doing a restaurant like this if you’re a foodie, its a great way to try new foods!
The hotel itself is large and offers plenty to do. There are two large pools, plenty of seperate space for children, which don’t let it put you off, they really don’t get in the way. Two bars, places for lunch, ice creams, and even mini golf!
I even got to try out the spa on the thursday for a lymphatic drainage massage which was so relaxing I didn’t want it to end! The spa is really well kitted out and you get access to the spa facilities such as jaccuzzi, sauna and footbaths within the first 3 days of your stay, so make sure you take advantage of it!
The Sheraton was one of the best places ever, each day we got to go left or right of the hotel to visit the marina and shops or go right to the old fishing port where there were quieter places to explore and trinket shops.
If you’re looking for a holiday that will tick every box, be romantic enough for a honeymoon or just somewhere to take the kids, it’s the one for you. Don’t let the idea of Tenerife being another European destination, Sheraton lets it be luxurious! Find out more about the Sheraton on Inspired Luxury Escapes here [LINK].
