The other week Turtle Bay generously invited myself, Dan & two friends, down to Turtle Bay Northampton to experience the full experience after being invited to the opening night. A few weeks ago we got to attend the VIP night of the new restaurant in Northampton which meant we got tasters of everything but didn’t get to choose our menu for the night. So in order to get the full Turtle Bay experience, we got to try to all!
Of course, we started with a round of 2 for 1 cocktails. It was a great way to kick off the night, I had the Marley Mojito which I had at the VIP night and really enjoyed. A rum cocktail with a watermelon twist, really refreshing! Dan had an espresso martini and my two friends, Josh and Dom both had the Zombie which had absinthe in, all well received! We all went for another round with our meals so proved how good they were!
You’ll have to excuse our pictures, we were sitting in a very dark corner of the room which works well for ambience but not for photos but you get the gist! For starters, we had ribs, jerk chicken wings, and a patty starter. We all loved them. The boys who had the ribs said they were super meaty and really tasty and my wings went down a treat as I knew I wanted jerk chicken but not as my main!
For mains, myself and Josh went for their ‘one pot meals’ which involves curries and some of their biggest dishes. I had the goat curry, of course, which isn’t for spice avoiders but it was super tasty, great flavours and the rice was really nice. I also ordered a side of plantain after being recommended it at the VIP night and knowing I liked it before. It is super sweet like sweet potatoes but I’d say even nicer. One to definitely add to any dish as a side! Dan and Dom had the steaks, they said as far as meat goes they were awesome but they did have to send these back because even the medium-rare was just too cold.
It didn’t ruin the meal at all but if you’re going to Turtle Bay, we’d probably say stick with the Caribbean classics and get your steaks elsewhere! Saying that you did get a great side salad and chips and the staff were very good at getting this re-cooked for us so we can’t complain!
For dessert, and my god by this point we should have stopped. We were FULL! But we all had something. The chocolate brownie was lovely but I was super full, Dan had an upside down cake and the boys had passionfruit pie.
All in all, I love Turtle Bay, it’s exactly what Northampton needed, we will probably return very soon even if it’s not for food but also for cocktails! 2 for 1 Happy Hours! What more could you need!
