As some of you may know, I’m from Suffolk in East Anglia. I grew up there and I spend a fair bit of time there as we have a house there and our families live there. This Christmas we were given a treat from Dan’s parents an overnight stay at the Packhorse Inn, in Moulton, near my hometown. The gift was a meal in their amazing restaurant and then a night in one of their rooms, meaning we didn’t have to have less to drink (because we would have had to drive to the restaurant normally) and we got to enjoy chilling out, a room and breakfast.
The Packhorse is most known for its amazing award winning restaurant. I’d previously had lunch there once and found the food to die for. So much effort in flavour and design is put into each meal and it truly makes fine dining worth the extra money. We had a cosy corner for our meal and I had a cauliflower starter, I don’t know what it was, but it was insanely good, pretty much like a sweet soup. Dan had a fish special.
They were both amazing and then for our second course I had what I’ve had before when I visited. Which sounds a bit of a cop out, but their trio of pork is HEAVEN. Three types of pork that melt in the mouth with onions and vegetables. There is even a thin stick of pork crackling which really adds glamour to the normally less glam part of the meat.
I love the dish and would happily eat it again! I can’t remember exactly what Dan had now but I know he absolutely enjoyed it and had something he wouldn’t normally have! We were too full from dinner for dessert but they had a great selection including retro sweets and mini doughnuts which I’m gutted I missed out on now!
Our room was called Lark which although connected to the building with the bar and restaurant was quiet and out of the way. It was very rustic and country like with shutters and then a beautiful decor. We had a big double bed and a large bathroom. The bathroom housed a monsoon shower and had underfloor heating which really warmed us up!
The room was decorated simply but sophisticated and we found it was perfect for us two! They even allow dogs in some of their rooms for a small additional charge which is great as some places do not allow them!
If you’re looking for a quiet retreat for the night, want fine wine, good food and a cosy room, this is the place to go. They’re in the top 100 restaurants in the UK so it’s easy to see why its a great choice! To find out more about their rooms visit their website here. [LINK]
